3rd Annual 5K Flamingo Run - April 21, 1990 Melbourne, Fl. Race Results Revels & Borell Flamingo Run (?? K): A potentially good run held in conjunction with the downtown Melbourne Arts Festival, was flawed with an inaccurate distance, tough racing conditions, traffic control, few spotters on the course and no water on the course. The race had a great turn out (343) finishers which was not anticipated. They ran out of safety pins at the start and finish line cards and water after the race. On the positive side, the awards were computed quickly and the medals given for first, second and third were high quality. First, second, and third overall received plaques. Free drinks and beer were available for all runners after the race and the tee shirt was nice enough although the same as last year. Weather was good despite the 8:30 am starting time. The course was well marked, but the signs were a little hard to see at times. Starting somewhere in the parking lot of the Blossom House, the race went to straight downhill and took an immediate right hand turn. The course then covered part of the art show strip on New Haven and then over to Melbourne Ave, through the sand from the Old Meehan's course and then back to New Haven for the finish next to the Post Office. The race wasn't easy, but their was no requirement that it should be. Bill McCord won in 15:21 despite having some difficulty locating turns. Trent Smith was a distant second in 15:49 and Donald Richmond was third in 15:51. Leah Howard won the women's race in 20:08, with Sandi Beard in second in 21:09 and Komkum Pandit close behind in 21:13.
