You will appreciate the soft, deep sandy surface after every faceplant. Course will be clearly marked with arrows scratched in the dirt or drawn with flour (unless I run out or it rains). It really helps if you can read a map and compass. Cutoff is 8:00 PM (12 1/2 hours). Average finish rate is 62%. Whiners will be disqualified. 50 MILE FUN RUN: Continues after the marathon for 6 more laps plus a 1.25 mile out and back, so you can't possibly get lost. Cutoff is still 8:00 PM. Average finish rate is 12%. 100 AND 200 MILE FUN RUNS: Repeat the 50 mile course for 2 or 4 consecutive days starting Sunday, same time each day. Finish rate is 1.3% for 100 miles, 0.4% for 200 miles. WEATHER: Snow is not expected. TIMING: Mark your time on the scoreboard after each lap. If you forget to wear a watch, then make something up. AID: There is a water spigot and bathrooms available at the end of each lap, plus whatever you put in your car. AMENITIES: Cool off in nearby pond. Please don't feed the alligators. BABY JOGGERS: Full face helmets, knobby tires, and suspension are recommended. LODGING: Stay in cheap motels along I-95 or in the luxury campgrounds in the park. No reservations needed. Only an idiot would visit Florida in the summer. Don't ask the park rangers about the race. They don't know about it yet. USAT&F CERTIFICATION: Are you kidding? QUOTE: "I have someplace else I need to be", Bill Menard, 2 time winner of the Badwater 135 mile race from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, run in 125 F temperatures, after winning the 1997 marathon in 5:21 and abandoning his 50 mile attempt.
